Baking Soda

Baking soda can cause hair damage and skin irritation.
.
The average scalp has a pH level of 5.5, and the hair shaft has a pH level of 3.67. Maintaining this balance helps with hair health, but baking soda has a pH level of 9.
Products with a high pH level can increase:
-cuticle damage
-hair breakage
-frizz
-irritation
Ingredients with a high pH are effective at removing buildup and drying out the scalp, but long-term use can also strip your hair of its natural oils and irritate the scalp.

Avoid using baking soda for your DIY hair product projects,if
-your hair dry or brittle
-your hair chemically treated or coloured
-you use hot tools to style your hair
-you have sensitive skin
.
What to use instead?
- If you want to remove product buildup and oil, use clarifying shampoo. These shampoos contain surfactants such as sodium laureth sulfate or sodium lauryl sulfate to remove product buildup.
-For pre-shampoo treatment use coconut oil . It can penetrate the hair shaft and prevent hair breakage.
-Invest in a good conditioner. It seals the cuticle ,create softer hair and restores pH balance in your hair.

Product Build Up

Some of the hair products like gels, mousses, hairsprays, shampoos and conditioners contain chemicals that don’t dissolve in water.  They leave tiny residue every time you use them.
.
What causes product build up?
-Not shampooing enough(or using only sulphate-free shampoo)
-Over using products
-Not rinsing thoroughly
-Using products containing silicons(that are not water soluble)and petroleum oils
-Co-washing
.
How to get rid of product build up?
1. Identify the products that cause build and through it away!
2. Use a clarifying shampoo.
3. Use a clarifying treatment.

Dry Shampoo

Dry shampoo doesn’t clean your hair.Dry shampoo absorbs excess sebum from your roots, freshens up the rest of your hair and leaves it smelling fresher.
.
It’s a powder or fast-drying spray that provides a water-free option for cleansing your hair .You can choose some different shades of dry shampoo so it will match your hair color..
.
If your dry shampoo leaves residue, you feel stickiness after using it,unpleasant scent,or you feel it’s too heavy for your hair type, then try different brand of dry shampoo.
.
* Shake it.
* Don’t spray too close to your head.
* Less is more. Too much dry shampoo can make your hair look dull.
* Dry shampoo should only be applied to dry hair.
* Don’t rub it in immediately after spraying it on give it a few minutes to absorb the oil at your scalp.
* Brush out excess of dry shampoo from your hair.
* Don’t overuse it.You still need your regular shampoo.

Purple Shampoo

Purple shampoo is a toning shampoo that uses the colour purple to directly brighten up the yellows and neutralizes warm tones in blonde/light hair by depositing cool, violet pigment.
.
If you know your hair has high porosity, or have tried purple shampoo in the past only to have it stain your hair purple, then try diluting your purple shampoo with water(personally I prefer this method)or a regular shampoo.
.
It’s the best way to keep your blonde hair bright in between your salon visits.
.
Always rinse with plenty of water and follow with a moisture conditioner, which could be purple too.

Hairspray (plus test)

Pump and aerosol hairsprays
Many people still believe that aerosol hairspray destroy ozone and are more damaging to the environment than pump hairspray. But aerosol hairsprays no longer use CFCs and have the same VOC limits as pump hairspray.
There is a real concern about breathing in any hairspray. You should be cautious and minimize your exposure when using any hairspray. For example you can wear a face mask 😷. Make sure you use water-soluble hairspray.
.
You can test the solubility of your favorite hairspray very easily.
Spray any clean, dry, glass surface with hairspray. Wait at least 24 hours and try to remove it from the glass. If the hairspray can’t be easily removed with warm, soapy water there is a danger it will build up in your lungs.

Silk Pillowcases

Sleeping on silk pillowcases will help keep that bed head under control.
.

The natural properties of silk, including its smooth surface, can help reduce friction on your hair which often causes damage, like spilt ends.
.

They don't suck out all of the natural moisture that your hair has and preven static from building up in your hair.

Vitamins and minerals, such as Biotin (Vitamin B7), Selenium , Vitamin A and Zinc can cause hair loss when consumed in excess.

If you are regularly taking more vitamins and minerals than your daily allowance, they can all lead to hair loss by triggering a condition called Telogen Effluvium.
.

Recommended Dietary Allowance:

✅Selenium – 55 mcg .
✅Vitamin A – 700 mcg (2,300 IU) for women .

Leave-in Conditioners

Leave-in conditioners can be in liquid sprays, lotions, and creams.
-For thick, coarse or curly hair use a creamy leave-in conditioner.
-For fine hair use a lotion or spray leave-in.
Leave-in conditioners can be protein based, moisturize based or balanced depending on the ingredients it contains.
-When your hair feels too soft or weak you should use a protein leave in conditioner for strength. Also, use it after highlights and bleach.
-When your hair feels rough or dry use a moisturizing conditioner. Also use it during the winter season, when your heater is on, but don’t forget to use a humidifier as well.
Almost all professional leave-in conditioners have pH between 4.5 and 5.5
